3 Tips For Successfully Managing Excessive Background Noise Inside A Restaurant

Blog

Solving issues with background noise inside of a restaurant is often a challenging task. Guests often want to feel like they're dining in a social environment, so it's important for guests to hear some level of background conversations while they're eating. At the same time, high levels of background noise can be very distracting, and they'll be unhappy if they have difficulty following along with conversation due to the noisy environment inside your restaurant. Strategically installing acoustic panels and other sound-blocking devices inside your restaurant will help to cut down on noise without eliminating it entirely. To find out how to best manage noise inside of your restaurant, follow the three tips below.

1. Install Acoustic Panels Around Excessive Sources of Noise

If your restaurant has a bar or a stage for live music, it's a good idea to install acoustic panels on the walls surrounding these areas. Acoustic panels are made of a dense fabric that absorbs sound waves, preventing them from bouncing around the entire restaurant area and contributing to background noise. Bars and sound stages are typically the loudest areas inside of a restaurant, and lining the walls around them with acoustic panels to absorb the sound will significantly reduce the amount of overall background noise in your restaurant.

2. Use Baffles to Isolate Table Conversations

Baffles are thick pieces of sound-blocking fabric that you can hang from the ceiling of your restaurant. Like acoustic panels, baffles absorb sound waves in order to reduce background noise. If you hang pairs of baffles above the tables and booths in your restaurants where guests eat, you'll isolate their conversations to the table they're sitting at.

By installing baffles around your seating, your guests will be able to focus better on what their dining partners are saying due to the fact that their sound is kept isolated to the table they're sitting at. In addition, lowering the overall level of background noise reaching the table means that guests are less likely to start speaking louder in order to compete with the background noise.

3. Prevent Sounds From the Kitchen From Reaching Your Dining Guests

Restaurant kitchens are often quite noisy as well, so it's a good idea to separate the restaurant's sound space from where your guests are dining. You can install acoustic panels in your kitchen to reduce sound transmission, and you can also install weather stripping around your kitchen doors in order to block sound from coming through the doorways. If your restaurant has an open kitchen, consider surrounding it with a glass or plastic partition in order to block some of the noise — guests can still see your employees working in the kitchen, but the partition will block some of the sound waves.

When you install the right acoustic solutions in your restaurant, your guests will be able to dine more comfortably while still feeling like they're in a social environment.

Using Audio Visual Equipment

I have never been someone who is naturally skilled with things like audio visual equipment, which is why I began focusing more and more on taking care of things the smart way. I began reading more out of things like user manuals and completely skipping various aspects of the troubleshooting process, and it really helped me to be more effective during things like presentations, when appearances matter a lot. After years of struggling with presentations, it has been amazing to see just how powerful a few changes made. This website is all about using equipment and knowing how to completely transform your next event.
